Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Puron air conditioner?
Puron is Carrier's trade name for F-410A refrigerant. Unlike old R-22 refrigerant it does not deplete the ozone layer. Also, because R-22 is being phased out, Puron is a natural choice to replace your old unit.
Do Puron air conditioning units cost more?
Yes, because they are heavier build than conventional air conditioners. They also use a scroll compresser and are a higher SEER rating.
What does SEER stand for?
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. All air conditioners and heat pumps are rated this way. The higher the SEER rating, the less power it takes to operate the unit.
What does AFUE stand for?
Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. All furnaces (oil, gas and propane) have this rating. The higher the AFUE rating, the less fuel it uses.
Is it advisable to change both the furnace and air conditioner at the same time?
Yes, if both units are the same or close to the same age, because the cost is less to do both at the same time, and usually both units are equally less efficient.
Why would I purchase a 2 stage or 2 stage variable speed furnace?
2 stage fueling systems are much quieter, more efficient on fuel, provide a higher comfort levels, and filter air much better.
Will I save on my electricity costs with a 2 stage system?
Yes. The average cost to operate a fan motor used for heating, cooling and ventilation is approximately $250 a year. The cost to operate a variable speed motor is $29 to $30 a year.
What is the warranty on furnaces and air conditioners?
All Puron air conditioning units have a 10 year parts and labour factory warranty on everything. All 2 stage units have 10 years parts and labour factory warranty. Heat exchangers have a 25 year factory warranty.
